Already facing very difficult conditions due to the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian national team is now in mourning. According to the association, the 41-year-old former midfielder was killed by Israeli airstrikes while waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip.

A former player for Khadamat al-Shatea in the Gaza League, Al-Obeid also played in the Jordanian League for Markaz Shabab al-Am'ari. The former international, who scored two goals in 18 appearances, according to the Transfermarkt website, is far from the only athlete to have died since the start of the Middle East conflict.
