A 49-year-old Senegalese man was arrested at the Amdalai border post between Senegal and Gambia by the Gambian Drug Enforcement Agency (DLEAG). Although he was not involved in drug trafficking, he was illegally in possession of a pistol loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition. He was taken into custody and then handed over to the police for legal action, reports Les Échos.
According to the same source, this arrest is part of a large-scale operation carried out by the DLEAG between July 24 and 31, targeting drug and arms trafficking.
In Fajara, further arrests were made: an Indian nightclub manager was found in possession of ecstasy, cannabis, skunk, and weapons. Two Bissau-Guineans were also arrested with 25 blocks of cocaine, Les Echos reports.
The daily newspaper emphasizes that all are being prosecuted in accordance with Gambian legislation on narcotics and the possession of firearms.
