Bissau: le président Embalo limoge son Premier ministre
Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embalo dismissed Prime Minister Rui Duarte Barros on Thursday, replacing him with a member of his party, Braima Camara, according to a presidential decree.
The reasons for the dismissal of Mr. Barros, a member of the historic African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), a long-time adversary of President Embalo, were not immediately known. He had headed the government since December 2023.
His dismissal comes four months before the presidential election set for November 23 by President Embalo, following several months of political crisis linked to the date of the end of his mandate.
Mr Barros is replaced by Braima Camara, a member of the ruling Madem G15 party.
Guinea-Bissau, one of the poorest countries in the world and considered one of the most corrupt, has been going from coup d'état to armed or political coups since its independence from Portugal.
Since the 2014 presidential election, the country has embarked on a path to a return to constitutional order, which has not spared it from turbulence. These turmoil persisted after Mr. Embalo was elected president in December 2019 for a five-year term.
