Loi anti-tabac : la Listab freine le ministre de la Santé
The Senegalese League Against Tobacco (Listab) strongly opposes a draft revision of the 2014 anti-tobacco law, reportedly introduced by the Ministry of Health and Social Action. In a memo seen by Wal Fadjri, the civil society organization calls on the government to withdraw the bill, arguing that the state of tobacco control in Senegal is "catastrophic."
A project developed without consultation
According to Listab, the bill was designed and finalized without consultation with the "real, representative and legal stakeholders" in the fight against tobacco. The organization, through its president, Amadou Moustapha Gaye, believes that Health Minister Ibrahima Sy is "under-informed" about the true state of the situation.
Listab calls on the government not to present this project to the National Assembly and urges the minister to assess the situation with legitimate stakeholders in the sector before taking further measures, the document states.
