The tragic death of Babacar Diagne, which occurred after an attack on Sunday, February 16, 2025, following the wrestling match between Franc and Ama Baldé, deeply shocked public opinion.
In a press release, the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Khady Diène Gaye, expressed her indignation at this act of violence, stressing that "the atrocious circumstances in which Mr. Babacar Diagne died call us once again to mind the violence that is eating away at our society."
Deploring the fact that a sporting event could result in such a tragedy, she called for "awareness among the population and young people in particular to avoid these unfortunate situations", before bowing to the memory of the victim and urging a collective commitment to guarantee the safety of all.
