Glissements de terrain en Éthiopie : L’Union africaine exprime sa solidarité
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, sent a message of condolence to the government and people of Ethiopia following the landslides in the Gamo area, after several days of heavy rain.
The disaster has caused the deaths of many people and displaced thousands of families. The head of the pan-African organization offered his condolences to the families of the victims, wished a speedy recovery to the injured, and praised the work of the rescue workers, humanitarians, and volunteers mobilized on the ground.
The African Union Commission also reaffirmed its support for relief and reconstruction efforts, while calling for the strengthening of risk management systems, early warning mechanisms and climate resilience policies in the face of the increasing number of disasters linked to extreme weather events.
