Maroc: 136 arrestations après des violences lors d'un match de championnat
Moroccan police arrested 136 people, including two minors, after violence marred a national football championship match between AS FAR and Raja Casablanca, a source from the prosecutor's office told AFP on Friday.
The match, played Thursday evening at the Moulay Abdellah complex in Rabat for the 17th round, was marked by violent clashes between supporters in part of the stands, according to videos broadcast by local media.
These incidents did not interrupt the match, which ended in a 2-1 victory for AS FAR. Some 136 people were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the disturbances, according to the same source.
These scenes sparked outrage in the kingdom's media, with some warning of calls for violence circulating on social media before the match.
While Moroccan football has made significant progress in infrastructure, player development and national team performance, it continues to face the phenomenon of hooliganism, with similar incidents in recent years.
Clashes between ultra groups sometimes take place outside of stadiums.
In the standings, AS FAR now occupies second place, two points ahead of Raja (3rd) and two points behind the leader, Maghreb de Fès, with 13 matchdays remaining in the season.
