Soudan du Sud : Riek Machar devant la justice pour « crimes contre l’humanité »
Former Vice President Riek Machar has been on trial in Juba since September 22, 2025, along with seven SPLM-IO officials, including suspended Oil Minister Puot Kang. They are accused of coordinating deadly attacks against the army in Nasir in March, which left more than 250 people dead, including a general and a UN pilot.
Machar, dismissed from his duties and placed under house arrest, is being prosecuted for "crimes against humanity," "terrorism," "treason," and "conspiracy." The prosecution cites his alleged role alongside the so-called "White Army" militia.
His lawyer says he is ready to defend himself, while his supporters denounce a political trial aimed at removing the opponent and calling into question the 2018 peace agreement. This trial marks his first public appearance in six months.
