Intelligence artificielle : Météo Sénégal prépare le grand saut
According to the Director General of the Meteorological Service, Dr. Aïda Ndiongue Niang, Senegal is preparing to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into temperature and rainfall measurements. "We are currently involved in several projects and initiatives to master the use of this tool in meteorology. We are also collaborating with partners at the national and international levels and have colleagues who are currently being trained," she revealed in an interview published this Monday in L'Observateur.
Among the benefits of AI for weather forecasting, Dr. Niang points out that "in terms of numerical performance, [this technology] consumes far fewer resources than the classic model. And visually, it's like comparing an elephant to a mouse, in terms of computing resources."
However, she warns, AI "requires the availability of quality weather data" which only the classic model can provide.
