During a courtesy visit to the two winners of the 2026 Senegal Media Grand Prize on Thursday, May 7, 2026, the director of the House of the Press, Sambou Biagui, unveiled a series of large-scale initiatives aimed at strengthening the value of the media sector.

Speaking at Seneweb's offices, he stressed the need to establish "positive sanctions" in favor of press actors, believing that the daily efforts of journalists and media companies deserve greater institutional recognition.

Towards a Grand Prix for Press Companies

In this context, Sambou Biagui announced the launch of the 2026 Grand Prix for Press Enterprises. This new award is intended to recognize the country's most successful media outlets. The initiative aims to highlight organizations that distinguish themselves through their professionalism, ethical rigor, and lasting impact on the public sphere.

"There must always be positive sanctions for the press. We are here to encourage and value the efforts made every day," he said, reaffirming the central role of the media in consolidating public debate.

The "Press Book": highlighting intellectual production

Furthermore, another flagship project was announced: the Press Book. This is an exhibition dedicated to works produced by journalists and other media professionals. This initiative aims to promote often overlooked intellectual output, particularly that of retired professionals who continue to contribute to national discourse through their writing.

According to Sambou Biagui, this event will help to raise awareness of publications rich in content but insufficiently distributed to the general public.

These two new projects complement a series of major actions, such as the International Media Fair of Africa and the Grand Prix des Médias du Sénégal, confirming a firm commitment to structuring and energizing the national media landscape.
