TRANSPORT ROUTIER : UNE PARALYSIE DE 72 HEURES ANNONCÉE PAR LES SYNDICATS
The road transport sector will be paralyzed for 72 hours starting Monday, March 30, 2026. The Secretary General of the Road Transport Union of Senegal, Fallou Samb, confirmed the strike call, denouncing a "lack of seriousness" and "respect for procedures" in discussions with the authorities.
According to him, the Federation of Road Transport Unions walked out of the negotiations because of the presence of a union representative who had not signed the strike notice and was presented as an "advisor to the minister." The minister's initial absence from the meeting was also perceived as a sign of disinterest, while the meeting's format, deemed too broad, did not allow for in-depth technical discussions.
Despite a second meeting, the grievances remained the same. The federation maintains, however, that it remains open to dialogue, provided that discussions are held only with those who signed the strike notice. It also denounces the authorities' refusal to officially recognize the structure created on February 16, 2026, seeing this as an attempt to weaken their movement.
The transport operators maintain that their demands are primarily about legality. They denounce, in particular, "harassment" and "corruption" on the roads, and demand the implementation of agreements relating to the reduction of checkpoints.
