Mercato : le Barça tout proche de boucler l’arrivée d’Anthony Gordon
The summer transfer window could start off with a bang for FC Barcelona. According to several Catalan media outlets, the Spanish champions are close to finalizing the transfer of Anthony Gordon, the English winger from Newcastle United FC.
Looking to bolster their attack for next season, Barcelona have reportedly accelerated discussions in recent hours. According to the Spanish press, an agreement has quickly been reached with the 25-year-old England international, who is said to have favored the Catalan project despite interest from Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
The Catalan daily Sport even claims that an agreement in principle already exists between Barcelona and Newcastle. The Magpies have reportedly given the green light for a transfer estimated at nearly €80 million. The deal could be finalized before the start of the World Cup, and a five-year contract is already awaiting the former Everton FC player.
This signing would fulfill a specific request from manager Hansi Flick, who is keen to add more speed and attacking threat on the wings. The German coach is said to particularly appreciate the profile of the England international.
But Barcelona's recruitment drive isn't expected to stop there. The Catalan club's management also wants to bring in a top-level striker to further bolster their attacking options.
