Pape Thiaw, sélectionneur des Lions: «Nous ne calculons pas ce qui se passe entre la RD Congo et le Togo»

Senegal will face South Sudan this Friday (1 p.m.) in the ninth round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Pape Thiaw and his men are aiming for a victory to stay at the top of Group B and continue to believe they can qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Although the Senegalese will be keeping an eye on the other group match, between DR Congo and Togo, which could determine the fate of the group, coach Pape Thiaw refuses to be distracted. In a press conference, he preferred to emphasize the need to focus on his own camp.

"We're not calculating what happens between DR Congo and Togo. The important thing for us is tomorrow's match against South Sudan. Every match is an opportunity, and we want to take the three points to maintain our chances of qualifying for the World Cup," he said.

The Senegalese coach also warned against a Sudanese team capable of surprising them. "It won't be an easy match against a very athletic team, which has already taken points against big nations. But we are ready to take on this challenge and defend our first place in the group," he warned.

Senegal, currently leading their group, know that a victory could fulfill their dream of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, especially if their main rival, DR Congo, stumbles against Togo.
