The Dakar Regional Narcotics Brigade has dealt a severe blow to drug trafficking by dismantling a network operating in the Dakar suburbs. Six individuals were arrested during the night of Saturday to Sunday, September 21, 2025, in possession of 2 kilograms of Indian hemp, according to Seneweb sources.

A meticulously prepared operation

The operation, carried out between 12:15 a.m. and 2:56 a.m., is the result of several weeks of surveillance. It follows the exploitation of intelligence revealing the existence of an Indian hemp trafficking network operating from a house located near the Tivaoune Peulh health center.

This location, known to police as a focal point for criminals, was under increased surveillance. Investigators had observed regular movements, particularly at night, of vehicles that appeared to be refueling or dropping off merchandise at this makeshift warehouse.

The dragnet

On D-Day, OCRTIS police officers in position spotted a vehicle parked in front of the suspect site. After waiting for several hours, the vehicle left the scene with two occupants on board.

The surveillance led to the arrest of Y. Faye (28 years old, illegal taxi driver living in Keur Massar) and M. Ba (35 years old, mason living in Tivaoune Peulh).

A search of their vehicle revealed two cones of Indian hemp, two cell phones, and 30,000 CFA francs. A search of their home uncovered five cultivated cannabis plants and an additional cone, according to Seneweb sources.

The trafficking chain is revealed

When questioned, Y. Faye agreed to take investigators to his supplier, PNNdiaye (28 years old, electrician living in Tivaoune Peulh). The latter was arrested in front of his home.

The search of his room proved successful: approximately 2 kilograms of Indian hemp divided into 25 packaged cones, 22,000 CFA francs, five pairs of scissors and a knife were seized.

PNNdiaye admitted to getting his supplies from a certain ON, established in Malika, precisely in Mbeubeuss.

Customers caught red-handed

The operation also led to the arrest of three customers who came to buy supplies on site: DT (40 years old, sculptor living in Apix Keur Massar), MBMaiga (52 years old, driver living in Apix Keur Massar) and CTDiop (42 years old, tiler living in Tivaoune Peulh).

Each was in possession of a cone purchased for 1,000 CFA francs, illustrating the retail trade organized by this network.

In total, the Dakar Regional Narcotics Brigade of OCRTIS seized:

- 2 kilograms of Indian hemp divided into 29 cones and one opened

- 5 cannabis plants in cultivation

- 52,000 CFA francs

- Several cell phones

- Packaging equipment (scissors, knife)

The six suspects were taken into custody after being notified of their rights, including the right to be represented by a lawyer of their choice. They are being prosecuted for cultivation and possession for the purpose of trafficking and use of Indian hemp.

The seized drugs, mobile phones and money were placed under seal for presentation to the relevant judicial authorities.
