Transport urbain : Les chauffeurs du BRT manifestent à Guédiawaye pour de meilleures conditions de travail
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) drivers demonstrated this Friday, May 15, in front of the Guédiawaye prefecture. They wore red armbands to express their discontent.
Their union denounces excessively long working days and the lack of dialogue with management. "The drivers are tired. We have no answers," says the general secretary, Mr. Sambe.
He says he has tried several times to meet with the CEO. "We were never received by the CEO," he explains, while specifying that discussions took place with human resources.
The movement also raises the issue of female bus drivers. Union representatives cite difficulties related to maternity leave. "Women are in complicated situations," the union states.
The drivers are also demanding a review of their rest periods. They believe that one week of leave is not enough to recover from the arduous nature of the work.
Another point of contention: the hours. Some provide services from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. "It's a difficult schedule to maintain," confides one protester.
Despite their mobilization, they continue to provide service. The red armbands remain their primary means of protest.
They are finally calling on the authorities to intervene, in particular President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.
