Diomaye Faye : Waly Diouf Bodiang ne mâche pas ses mots
While some Pastef officials are avoiding the subject, perhaps fearing repercussions through decrees, Waly Diouf Bodiang is not holding back. In a profile dedicated to him in Jeune Afrique (Editor's note: published yesterday before President Faye's interview with the Senegalese media), the director of the Autonomous Port of Dakar did not mince words in his criticism of the President of the Republic.
The main reason for his disapproval lies in the management of the winning coalition in the 2024 presidential election, Diomaye Président. The maneuvers of the head of state since his election have led Waly Diouf Bodiang to describe the presidential structure as an "unexpected political contradiction" with Pastef. "Having a president who sits in a coalition parallel to the party that got him elected..." he notes.
Indeed, while some Pastef loyalists expected Diomaye Faye to dismantle his coalition and redirect most of the power to the party headquarters, this did not happen. On the contrary, the president solidified the structure that brought him to the presidential palace, including members hostile to Pastef leader Ousmane Sonko. "A stillborn project," Waly Diouf Bodiang declared regarding the Diomaye-President coalition.
In this context, one appointment sparked outrage among Pastef members: that of Aminata "Mimi" Touré. "This was the last straw," says Waly Diouf Bodiang. "All coalitions in Senegal revolve around a party. In this case, Pastef. It's up to its president to decide who leads the coalition. The moment Bassirou Diomaye Faye wants to appoint his coordinator, we're stepping outside the political framework of Pastef," adds the political leader.
