Addis-Abeba 2025 : l’Afrique se place au cœur de la lutte climatique

From September 8 to 10, 2025, the second Africa Climate Summit brought together 45 heads of state and more than 25,000 stakeholders from the public, private, and civil society sectors in Addis Ababa. The event highlighted Africa not only as a vulnerable continent, but also as a hotbed of innovation and solutions to the climate crisis.

Africa is already suffering considerable economic losses from climate change, representing between 2 and 5 percent of its GDP each year, with nearly $13 billion in infrastructure damage. Faced with this reality, African leaders sought to reverse the trend, transforming these constraints into tangible opportunities. The continent possesses remarkable potential in renewable energy, from solar to wind, as well as strategic minerals needed for the global energy transition.

Throughout the summit, the focus was on mobilizing green capital and the need for a profound reform of the international financial architecture. Participants emphasized the importance of sustainable investments to enable African nations to develop resilient infrastructure, support technological innovations, and strengthen food and energy security.

The final joint declaration symbolized this desire to transform vulnerabilities into strengths. It called for a concrete commitment from international partners to support African initiatives, positioning the continent as a key and innovative player in global climate governance.
