African Union: Call for dialogue amid rising tensions in Somalia

Union africaine : appel au dialogue face à la montée des tensions en Somalie

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, expressed his concern about the rising tensions in Somalia, particularly in the Southwest State.

He calls on political actors to prioritize dialogue, using the National Consultative Council as a framework for consultation, in order to peacefully resolve disputes between the federal government and member states.

Faced with risks to stability and the humanitarian situation, the African Union urges restraint and reaffirms its commitment to supporting peace, reconciliation and reconstruction efforts in the country.
