Algérie: l'armée annonce avoir tué quatre "terroristes"
The Algerian army killed four armed "terrorists" during a military operation in northwestern Algeria, the Ministry of Defense announced in a statement on Sunday.
"As part of the fight against terrorism, detachments of the ANP (People's National Army) killed four terrorists today (Sunday)" during a search and sweep operation, still ongoing, in the mountainous area of Djebel Amrouna, according to the ministry.
Four Kalashnikovs and ammunition were seized during this operation, according to the same source, during this operation carried out in the Ain Defla region, located about 130 kilometers west of Algiers.
The Algerian army regularly announces that it has arrested or killed "terrorists", a term used by the authorities to refer to armed Islamists who have remained active since the civil war (1992-2002).
This "dark decade" officially resulted in 200,000 deaths.
Despite the 2005 Charter for Peace and Reconciliation intended to turn the page on violence, armed groups continue to carry out sporadic operations.
According to a report from the Algerian Ministry of Defense, since the beginning of 2026 the Algerian army has "killed 21 terrorists, captured 8 others and 38 terrorists have repented".
During the same period and according to the same source, "369 individuals supporting terrorist groups were arrested" and more than a hundred weapons were recovered.
