Uber, the American ride-hailing giant, is leaving Ivory Coast. It quietly announced its withdrawal from the country on September 25. According to Jeune Afrique, both drivers and users received messages notifying them of the company's cessation of operations in Ivory Coast.
Obviously, the American is not packing his bags with a light heart.
Present in Ivory Coast since 2019
He called it a "difficult decision," but one that was "consistent with its overall strategy," which aims to focus its resources on "key markets" that can guarantee "long-term growth." The American ride-hailing giant thanks its customers for "being part of its history" in the West African country.
It should be remembered that the driver booking platform has been present in Ivory Coast since 2019. Its departure can be seen as a failure compared to competitors such as Bolt, Taxijet and Yango.
