Bénin : Le gouvernement interdit la commercialisation de 3 marques de concentré de tomates en boîte
In Benin, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued a statement yesterday, Thursday, strictly prohibiting the sale of canned tomato paste under the brands LEADER, RICHFUL, and TOP PREMIER. According to the administrative body headed by Shadiya Assouman, these products do not comply with Benin's standards and could pose a risk to public health.
"All importers are required to remove these products from distribution channels."
"It has been observed that canned tomato pastes under the brands LEADER, RICHFUL and TOP PREMIER, which do not comply with the standards in force in the Republic of Benin, are being placed on the international market. The consumption of these products could constitute a health risk for the population. For this reason, the marketing of these products is strictly prohibited," the note orders.
"All importers, distributors, retailers and other economic operators are required to withdraw said products from distribution channels and points of sale," starting this Thursday, May 21, the statement said.
"Measures taken to strengthen market surveillance"
The public is advised to refrain from consuming the affected canned tomato pastes.
The ministry assures that "necessary measures are being taken by competent state services to strengthen market surveillance in order to prevent the entry and distribution of these products on national territory".
