Bénin : Le Président élu Romuald Wadagni va entrer en fonction le 24 mai 2026
In Benin, the Constitutional Court proclaimed the final results of the presidential election held on April 12th yesterday, Thursday, April 23rd. Unsurprisingly, the duo Romuald Wadagni and Mariama Chabi Talata won the election with 94.27% of the vote, compared to 5.73% for Paul Hounkpè and Rock Hounwanou, the other competing duo.
These final results come 5 days after the same institution announced the provisional results of the election.
Indeed, according to the Beninese constitution, presidential candidates have five days from the proclamation of the provisional results to contest the regularity of the electoral operations. Having noted that none of the candidate pairs filed a complaint with the court registry within the five-day period, the seven justices of the high court therefore declared the results of the presidential election of April 12, 2026, final.
In their decision, they specify that the president-elect will take office on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at 00:00, after his swearing-in ceremony in Porto-Novo.
