Nigerian police announced on Friday that the driver of the vehicle in which British boxing star Anthony Joshua was traveling during the crash that killed two of his relatives has been charged, notably with "dangerous" driving.

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, is accused of "dangerous driving resulting in death", "driving without a valid license", "driving without care or attention causing bodily injury and property damage", and "reckless driving", Oluseyi Babeseyu, a police spokesman for Ogun State (southwest), told AFP.

He remains in custody until he meets the conditions of his release on bail, set at five million naira (approximately 3,000 euros), the representative said.

Kayode is due to appear in court on January 20.

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode was driving the vehicle carrying Joshua and two of his relatives, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, on a busy highway linking Lagos and Ibadan (southwest) on Monday when the SUV collided with a stationary truck in Sagamu, Ogun State.

According to Nigerian police and authorities in Ogun State, Ayodele and Ghami, two coaches involved in the British player's physical preparation, died instantly.

Initial investigations showed that the vehicle was traveling at excessive speed and that a tire had blown out before the accident, according to the Ogun State Traffic Enforcement and Control Agency (TRACE).

Joshua, 36, former world heavyweight champion who was slightly injured in the accident, has left the Lagos hospital where he had been admitted.

After knocking out Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on December 20, he stayed on vacation in the country where his parents were born.

At the end of the fight against Paul, staged by Netflix with an excessive amount of resources, he launched a challenge to Tyson Fury, his flamboyant compatriot and also former heavyweight champion, whom he has never faced.
