Boycott de la séance de questions d’actualité : Adji Mergane Kanouté appelle l’opposition à « ne pas faire le vide »
The former parliamentarian reiterates that the National Assembly remains the primary forum where the voice of the people, who entrusted their power to elected officials, must be expressed. She also emphasizes that the institution represents the "vital democratic lifeblood" of the country.
Adji Mergane Kanouté insists on the importance of the question period, provided for by article 104, paragraph 5 of the rules of procedure of the National Assembly, which offers deputies the opportunity to question the government on essential subjects.
The former MP believes that this moment of exchange is essential, especially at a time when Senegal is facing many challenges: a weakened economy, declining purchasing power, worrying youth unemployment, and growing social and family pressure.
According to her, the parliamentary opposition is expected in the chamber to raise these concerns and obtain answers on behalf of the citizens.
While acknowledging that boycotts can be seen as a means of political struggle, Adji Mergane Kanouté believes that the current context primarily demands dialogue between institutions. "We don't need political weapons, but parliamentary dialogue to overcome the obstacles and pull our country out of this rut," she asserts.
She therefore invites the opposition MPs to fully exercise their responsibilities: "You are within your rights, but this is neither the time nor the place to create a vacuum."
