Burkina Faso : Un site clandestin de recyclage de téléphones démantelé à Ouagadougou
The National Agency for Environmental Assessments (ANEVE), with the support of the police, discovered an illegal telephone processing workshop in Ouagadougou on November 28, 2025, following a citizen alert.

On site, foreign nationals were illegally recycling phones by heating them in makeshift furnaces to extract metals for export to China. This activity, carried out without authorization and in a residential area, poses serious health and environmental risks.
Law enforcement seized approximately thirty 100kg bags containing cell phone casings and recycling materials. Those involved were arrested and will be questioned.

The agency is calling on the public to report any activity that could harm the environment or public health.
