Cameroon: Women punish a husband accused of beating his wife (Video)
An act of mob justice shook the Bojongo district in Bonaberi (Douala), Cameroon, after a man known for his repeated violence against his wife was publicly confronted by women from his community.
According to several accounts, the man, nicknamed "Father Lion," was notorious for regularly beating his wife at their home. Fed up with this repeated domestic violence, the women in the neighborhood decided to intervene after once again hearing the victim's cries for help.
A video widely shared on social media shows several women armed with sticks surrounding a man. Attempting to defend himself, he brandished a machete while warning his attackers to keep their distance. Despite this, the women continued their assault and struck him repeatedly.
The situation escalated when another man arrived and managed to disarm the individual by taking away his machete, before striking him in turn. Deprived of his weapon, the man was subjected to an escalation of blows and insults, until he hastily sought refuge in a house to escape the collective anger.
In the video, a voice is heard declaring: "The man na craze man", a popular expression meaning that the man is "crazy".
In Cameroon, as in many countries, human rights organizations are calling for a strengthening of protection mechanisms for victims of domestic violence, as well as for faster and more effective support from law enforcement.
