It's common knowledge. Former Senegalese President Macky Sall is a candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN). His application was submitted by the Republic of Burundi. This has surprised many, even though the leader of that country is the current Chairperson of the African Union.
During a visit to the set of the digital media outlet "Décrypter l'Afrique", columnist Félix Atchadé criticized the approach of the native of Fatick.

“Usually, when you are a candidate for this position of responsibility, you take care to discuss it with the authorities of your country, who then make the entire diplomatic apparatus available to support your candidacy. Afterwards, you try to work your way up, going through sub-regional and regional organizations, and perhaps the African Union, to endorse your candidacy. But none of that was done with Macky Sall. That's why I consider it, until proven otherwise, to be a bluff,” Mr. Atchadé stated.
He also points out the silence observed at the top of the Senegalese state regarding this candidacy.
“The Senegalese authorities have never communicated on the receipt of a candidacy request from Macky Sall. Furthermore, a week ago, the Senegalese Prime Minister was at the National Assembly for current affairs. And during this session, members of Macky Sall’s political party, particularly the parliamentary group, were present, but they did not ask any questions about a possible candidacy of Macky Sall,” said Félix Atchadé.
Ultimately, it's unclear whether the current government is aware of the former leader's ambitions, since he doesn't speak about them and isn't given the opportunity to do so. In any case, according to Félix Atchadé, Macky Sall is "behaving somewhat like a stowaway," by routing his case through Burundi.
