Centre du Nigeria: au moins 29 morts et 42 blessés dans l'explosion d'un camion-citerne

At least 29 people died and 42 others were injured Tuesday when a tanker truck exploded after an accident on a highway in Niger state, central Nigeria, emergency services said.

Accidents involving tanker trucks are common in Nigeria, where roads are sometimes poorly maintained and residents attempt to siphon off oil or gasoline after such accidents.

"We have 29 dead and 42 injured," Ibrahim Hussaini, local coordinator of the Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Niger state, told AFP.

"A truck carrying fuel overturned, and these people went to retrieve fuel. The truck exploded and they caught fire," he added.

According to him, the accident occurred late morning around 11 a.m. between Essan and Badeggi communities, along the road linking Bida town to Agaie town in Katcha Local Government Area of the state.

In March, 10 people were killed in a pile-up on a highway outside the capital Abuja in northern Nigeria, involving a fuel tanker that caught fire during the collision.

In January, at least 98 people also died after gathering to collect fuel on the road following a tanker explosion in Niger state.

A chaque fois le même scénario. Personne ne retient la leçon.
