Cinq ans de prison ferme requis contre le membre malien du Conseil national de Transition pour outrage au président ivoirien
The Abidjan-Plateau Court of First Instance examined, on January 9, 2026, the case of Mamadou Hawa Gassama, a Malian member of the National Transitional Council (CNT), who was being prosecuted for insulting the Ivorian president and disseminating offensive remarks online. The prosecution requested a five-year prison sentence.
Arrested in July 2024 by the Directorate of Territorial Surveillance as he was leaving Ivory Coast, the accused is being prosecuted for statements made in September 2022 in a Malian media outlet, deemed insulting to President Alassane Ouattara.
At the hearing, Mamadou Hawa Gassama admitted to the charges and apologized. The defense denounced the sentence as disproportionate. The verdict is expected on January 30, 2026.
