Coup d'État en Guinée-Bissau: Le Ghana condamne et exige le retour à la démocratie

The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release denouncing the military takeover in Guinea-Bissau, just days after the elections.

The Ghanaian government reacted strongly, declaring that "the Government of the Republic of Ghana strongly and unequivocally condemns the coup d'état perpetrated by elements of the armed forces in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau."

The military intervention is described as a serious threat to the country's stability. According to the ministry, "this unconstitutional usurpation of authority represents a direct attack on democratic governance and disrupts the electoral process that followed the peaceful holding of the presidential and legislative elections of November 23, 2025."

Accra expresses its deep concern and strong dissatisfaction with this attempt to overturn the will of the people of Guinea-Bissau. The military action, the statement adds, "has dangerously interrupted the nation's democratic trajectory and obstructed the scheduled announcement of the election results on November 27, 2025."

Ghana demands an immediate return to constitutional order and calls on all parties to respect the democratic process. The ministry insists that "any grievances arising from the elections must be addressed solely through peaceful, transparent, and legally recognized mechanisms."

Accra also made strict demands regarding the security of citizens and foreign nationals. It also requested protection for the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission currently deployed in Guinea-Bissau.

"Their safety and safe passage must be guaranteed without delay," the statement demands.

In conclusion, Ghana urges the people of Guinea-Bissau to remain calm, exercise restraint, and avoid any actions that could escalate tensions. The government also reaffirms its full support for ECOWAS and the African Union in their coordinated response to the crisis, in accordance with regional and continental protocols on democracy, good governance, and the constitutional rule of law.

La photo qui accompagne l'article n'est pas celle du Président actuel du Ghana. C'est celle d'un ancien Président.
