Crise au Mali : Pourquoi vous n'avez (peut-être) pas à craindre pour votre mouton de Tabaski
As the major Tabaski festival approaches, concerns about the supply of sheep are real for many households. Many fear that the current insecurity in Mali, a traditional supplier of livestock, will severely impact the transport of animals to Senegal. However, Yero Diao, a livestock farmer in Tanko in the Bounkiling department, is urging calm. According to him, the growing development of home livestock farming in Senegalese households now allows for the creation of a solid local stock, capable of compensating for import difficulties.
For this industry player, while Mali remains a long-standing partner, the current crisis is not an insurmountable obstacle provided that domestic production is fully utilized. This dynamic of gradual self-sufficiency would allow the region to secure its own market and free itself from the fluctuations linked to border instability. Little by little, local livestock farming is thus emerging as a sustainable solution to guarantee the availability of livestock during major religious celebrations.
