A vast network of cybercriminals dismantled by the international criminal police organization.
In two months, 651 people were arrested by police forces in 16 African countries, and more than $4.3 million was seized as part of Operation Red Card 2.0, conducted in collaboration with the International Criminal Police Organization.
The total losses are estimated at over $45 million, primarily caused by widespread online fraud. Among the scams identified are mobile payment fraud and fake bank loans. In Ivory Coast, police dismantled a network specializing in fake mobile loans. Fraudulent apps promised quick loans while imposing hidden fees. Victims were then harassed, and their personal and financial data were illegally collected. In Nigeria, fraudsters are accused of infiltrating the internal systems of a major telecommunications operator using stolen credentials. They then diverted phone credit and internet packages, which they subsequently resold for profit.
Only 1,247 victims have been identified; Interpol encourages victims to come forward.
