Fleuve Gambie : Hausse généralisée du niveau de l’eau sur l’ensemble des stations hydrométriques

The latest observations from the Directorate of Flood Management and Prevention confirm a clear trend: the level of the Gambia River is rising at all hydrometric stations, from Kédougou to Gouloumbou.

Over the past two days, all measuring stations (Kédougou, Mako, Simenti and Gouloumbou) have recorded an increase in the water level, a sign of significant water inflow to the basin.

  1. In Kédougou, the water level increased by +24 cm on August 14 at 8 a.m., after a slight decrease observed the day before. Over 48 hours, the net fluctuation is +9 cm.
  2. In Mako, the rise is more marked, with +19 cm in 24 hours and +35 cm over two days.
  3. In Simenti, the progression is more moderate: +8 cm in 24 hours and +10 cm in 48 hours.
  4. In Gouloumbou, the rise reached +21 cm in one day, and +41 cm over two days.

This widespread rise in water levels could have an impact on riverside areas if the trend continues in the coming days.

Authorities are calling for vigilance, particularly in areas most exposed to flooding.

In summary, the Gambia River is experiencing a simultaneous rise in its water levels at all measuring stations, a sign of hydrological dynamics that should be closely monitored in the middle of August.
