Force unifiée de l’AES : Le président Assimi Goita pose un acte décisif
In Mali, the President of the Transition, General Assimi Goïta, presented the flag to the commander of the Unified Force of the Confederation of Sahel States, Brigadier General Daouda Traoré, on Saturday, December 20. The ceremony took place on the tarmac of the presidential pavilion at Modibo Keita Airport in Bamako.
In his speech, the Minister of Defence, General Sadio Camara, indicated that the Sahel is going through a key moment, marked by the fight against terrorism and the will of the people to preserve their sovereignty and dignity.
"Strengthening the coordination and effectiveness of joint military operations"
After years of sacrifices made in the fight against terrorism, the countries of the Southern African Economic and Monetary Community (SAEC) decided to take control of their collective security, Minister Camara continued. This dynamic led to the establishment of a "unified theater of operations, and subsequently to the creation of the SAEC Unified Force, whose aim is to strengthen the coordination and effectiveness of joint military operations."
"To assume, in a sovereign and concerted manner, the defense and security of the Sahel region"
For Minister Sadio Camara, the flag presented to his comrade-in-arms symbolizes the memory of sacrifices made and the unwavering commitment of the Sahelian peoples. The Malian presidency stated that Assimi Goita's action "confirms the shared will of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to strengthen their military cooperation and to fully assume, in a sovereign and coordinated manner, the defense and security of the Sahel region in the face of current challenges."
