Gabon : TikTok propose des solutions pour lever la suspension des plateformes sociales
A delegation from TikTok is expected in Libreville in the coming days to meet with officials from the High Authority for Communication (HAC), following the decision by Gabonese authorities to suspend access to social networks throughout the country.
In a letter dated February 18, 2026 and addressed to the president of the HAC, Germain Ngoyo Moussavou, the director of public policy and institutional relations of TikTok Francophone Africa, Nshingu Kazadi, states that the platform "takes note" of the measure taken by the regulator.
Based in Johannesburg, the official stated that TikTok understands the concerns raised by the regulatory body, particularly regarding the application of Law No. 019/2016 of August 9, 2016, the Communications Code. The platform affirms that it shares the authorities' objective of ensuring a digital space that respects the rights and dignity of citizens and the laws in force.
With this in mind, TikTok is proposing to strengthen its moderation system and integrate High Authority Control (HAC) into its "TikTok Safety Enforcement Tool" (TSET), which allows for priority processing of reports of content deemed sensitive. The company also states it is willing to receive problematic URLs and lists of sensitive keywords to improve the detection and removal of problematic content.
The suspension decided on February 17, 2026, notably concerns TikTok, but also YouTube and Facebook. Gabonese authorities clarified that this is not a total internet shutdown, but a targeted restriction on access to and use of these platforms.
The meeting planned in Libreville should allow both parties to examine the concrete modalities of collaboration and to explore ways of a concerted exit from the crisis.
