Gambie : Le gouvernement interdit aux enfants des Daaras et Madrasas de solliciter des dons dans les rues
In The Gambia, the government is vehemently opposed to the disguised begging of children attending Daaras, Madrasas, and conventional schools. In a statement released yesterday, Tuesday, December 24, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education formally prohibited students of these religious and conventional schools from soliciting donations in public places such as streets and beaches, especially while wearing their uniforms.
They are exposed to "potential abuse and harm..."
“No student, whether from daaras, madrasas, or conventional schools, should be sent to public spaces to solicit donations of any kind,” the statement emphasizes. Encouraging such a practice violates “the principles of child protection and exposes students to potential abuse and harm resulting from criminal activities,” the ministry asserts.
He points out that his measure applies to "all students, including those in daaras, madrasas and traditional schools".
Parents, guardians, school authorities and community leaders are urged to take responsibility for protecting children from exploitation.
The ministry also asks the public to report any such incidents to the nearest regional education authority so that appropriate measures can be taken in collaboration with the relevant authorities.
