Donald Trump stated on Monday that he does not know whether Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is still alive. This comment comes amid reports that the designated successor was injured in recent strikes and has made no public appearances since his official appointment.
Questioned by journalists at the White House, the U.S. president amplified persistent rumors surrounding the Iranian leader's health condition.
"Many people are saying he's severely disfigured. They say he lost his leg, a leg, and that he was badly injured. Others claim he's dead. Nobody is saying he's 100% healthy. You know, he hasn't spoken," Donald Trump asserted.
The White House occupant concluded his remarks on a note of radical uncertainty: "We don't know (...) if he's dead or not." This prolonged absence of Mojtaba Khamenei fuels speculation about the stability of the Tehran regime, as the transition at the top of the Iranian state appears to be taking place in complete opacity.
