To mark the first anniversary of the Refoundation, General Abdourahmane Tiani, President of the Republic of Niger, addressed the nation. In a statement broadcast on national television RTN, the 62-year-old leader reviewed the achievements of this political and institutional process launched on March 26, 2025.

Our "brother peoples (did not choose) this deadly and destructive war"

He also expressed regret over the war in the Middle East, provoked by the United States and Israel. “The situation in the Middle East and in several other warring countries is of utmost concern to us because it has repercussions on our economic situation and our security. It also concerns us because it affects brotherly peoples, confronted with injustice and a deadly and destructive war that they did not choose,” General Tiani stated. He believes that these tragedies could have been avoided if “all actors on the international stage had exercised restraint and complied with international law.”

Lessons to be learned for the AES

In any case, this war shows that it is imperative to "profoundly rethink the international order if we want a just, peaceful world dedicated to the only struggle that matters: the struggle for the happiness of peoples," said Abdourahmane Tiani.

The Nigerien leader ultimately invited the countries of the AES Confederation to draw these few lessons from the conflict in the Middle East.

“At both the national level and within our Confederation, we must never underestimate the malevolence of certain powers capable of anything to defend their interests, including deceiving and mobilizing community and international bodies to wage war against us. We must never allow the enemy to infiltrate our countries and divide us in order to then subjugate us,” declared the coup leader. He advocates for strengthening the “AES Confederation,” which, according to him, constitutes a “true bulwark against all attempts at aggression.”
