Guinée-Bissau : Vers une assignation à domicile de Domingos Simões Pereira
On Friday, January 30, 2026, Domingos Simões Pereira, president of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), is scheduled to be released from prison. This information comes from the Guinea-Bissau newspaper O Democrata.
In a post on its website, the newspaper reports that the release of the PAIGC president is to take place in the presence of the Senegalese president's special envoy, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye. However, O Democrata specifies that the political leader will be placed under house arrest after his release.
The negotiation that led to his release was conducted under the auspices of the Senegalese government, through its special envoy, the Minister of National Defence, General Birame Diop, with the support of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), according to the newspaper.
General Birame Diop is leading a mission that has been in Bissau since Thursday. He met with Guinean transitional authorities to secure the release of Domingos Simões Pereira and the removal of independent candidate Fernando Dias da Costa from the embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to information provided by O Democrata, Fernando Dias and Geraldo Martins are leaving the Nigerian embassy this Friday.
Fernando Dias da Costa had taken refuge in this diplomatic mission since the coup of November 26, 2025, in the company of former Prime Minister Geraldo João Martins.
According to information obtained by O Democrata from a source close to the matter, the Senegalese president's special envoy will accompany Fernando Dias da Costa and Geraldo Martins as they leave the Nigerian embassy. Both are expected to return directly to their respective homes this Friday.
Domingos Simões Pereira was arrested on November 26, 2025, following the military coup, and has been detained for more than sixty days at the second police station in Bissau.
The Senegalese mission also includes two military officers, Colonel Ndiaye and Colonel Manga, as well as the Senegalese ambassador to Guinea-Bissau, Moussa Ndoye, reports O Democrata.
