Le leader de l'opposition en Guinée-Bissau dépose sa candidature à la présidentielle
Guinea-Bissau opposition leader Domingo Simoes Pereira, who returned from exile last week, filed his candidacy for the November presidential election with the Supreme Court on Tuesday, an AFP journalist noted.
A former prime minister and leader of the PAIGC, the party that led to Guinea-Bissau's independence, Mr. Pereira is being prosecuted and has been in exile in Portugal for nine months because he said he feared for his life. The court accuses him of involvement in an attempted coup and corruption.
He is a long-time opponent of current President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, whose last presidential election he was a rival in 2019, in a contested election.
Mr. Pereira leads the main opposition coalition, Pai Terra Ranka, which brings together around ten political parties. He is the second candidate to officially declare his candidacy, following President Umaro Sissoco Embalo on Monday.
An AFP journalist saw one of Mr. Pereira's representatives, Agnelo Regala, submitting the nomination papers to the head of the Supreme Court.
"The Pai-Terra Ranka coalition has just submitted its presidential candidacy and list of candidates for the legislative elections," Regala told AFP. "We hope that all the conditions are in place to compete on November 23," he added.
A former Portuguese colony in West Africa, Guinea-Bissau has experienced four successful coups since its independence (the last in 2012), 17 attempted coups and a waltz of governments.

Et malheureusement les Sénégalais regrettent ce départ malheureusement.
Mballo travaille et n'est pas dans le populisme comme Sonko.
Je suis profiler. Sa tête n’annonce rien de bon. Qui vivra verra.
