Guinée : Plus de 2 000 habitants de Gnèrè (Siguiri) privés de poste de santé depuis des décennies
Access to healthcare remains a major challenge for low-income populations in Guinea. In the district of Gnèrè, part of the sub-prefecture of Naboun, prefecture of Siguiri, the lack of health infrastructure is causing serious difficulties for residents, particularly pregnant women, children, and the elderly, reports a SeneWeb Guinea correspondent.
An isolated and disadvantaged district
Located approximately 30 kilometers from Naboun and 115 kilometers from downtown Siguiri, the Gnèrè district has over 2,000 inhabitants. Agriculture and livestock farming, the main economic activities in the area, remain only marginally profitable.
In the absence of a health post, residents are forced to travel long distances to access primary healthcare. This situation particularly endangers vulnerable populations and makes emergency care virtually impossible.
Heartbreaking testimonies
Seydou Sylla, a member of the Gnèrè district office, did not hide his dismay:
“We don’t have a health post. That’s our biggest worry today. Healthcare infrastructure contributes to a village’s development. There are over 2,000 people here, but no health post. Only God and President Mamadi Doumbouya can end this suffering. Traveling for miles with a pregnant woman is extremely difficult. Our village is over 100 years old, but it has never had a health post. We suffer greatly, especially since our roads are in poor condition. We ask President Mamadi Doumbouya and his government to help us obtain a health post.”
The district's dean, Karifala Sacko, also recounts the daily difficulties encountered:
“Gnèrè was established as a district about 30 years ago, but we still don’t have a health post. When my wife was pregnant, we had to go to Boukaria where we spent two days without success. We were finally forced to go all the way to Siguiri, with all the suffering that entails.”
An urgent appeal to the authorities
Faced with this situation, the residents of Gnèrè are making an urgent appeal to the authorities for the construction of a health post and the improvement of road infrastructure. Without swift intervention, access to healthcare will remain a real struggle for these citizens, whose only "fault" is living far from urban centers.
