Guinée – Éducation : le SLECG rejette la date du 15 septembre et exige l’ouverture d’un dialogue

The Guinean government's decision to set the start of the school year for September 15, 2025, continues to spark strong reactions. The Free Union of Teachers and Researchers of Guinea (SLECG) denounces a unilateral decision by the Ministry of Pre-University Education and Literacy and demands the opening of an inclusive dialogue.

Meeting in a general assembly at the union's headquarters in Conakry, the SLECG, through its secretary general Aboubacar Soumah and his colleague Kadiatou Bah, expressed its categorical disagreement with this date, believing that it had not been the subject of any consultation with stakeholders in the education sector.

"We learned about the start of the school year on social media. This does not reflect the spirit of collaboration we had established with the ministry. Usually, all the relevant organizations—SLECG, FSPE, SNE, FEGUIPAE—are consulted in advance," Kadiatou Bah lamented.

The SLECG accuses the ministry of trying to marginalize the unions. "Since the advent of the CNRD, we have always been open to dialogue, even when the compromises were not entirely favorable to us. But today, it is clear that the ministry wants to act alone, to the detriment of the social partners," denounced Aboubacar Soumah.

The inter-union also believes that the September 15 date is "inapplicable" in the current context. It cites in particular the recent humanitarian disaster that has affected several regions of the country, the climatic conditions unfavorable to an early return to school, as well as the persistent economic crisis that is weighing heavily on families and teaching staff.

Faced with this situation, the unions are calling for the urgent opening of a framework for dialogue with the ministry. They emphasize that any lasting educational reform must be based on consultation, inclusion, and respect for social partners.

Otherwise, they warn, the 2025-2026 school year could begin in a climate of social tension, with unpredictable consequences for the smooth running of classes.

Pourquoi contacter des syndicats pour l'ouverture de l'ecole. vous avez eu votre mois de vacances. Dans ces systemes francophones, chaque fonctionnaire devrait avoir un cahier de rappel de ses devoirs et prerogatives.
