Guinée : La Cour Suprême proclame Mamadi Doumbouya vainqueur
Guinea's Supreme Court officially proclaimed on Sunday the final results of the presidential election of December 28, 2025, confirming the overwhelming victory of General Mamadi Doumbouya, candidate of the Movement for National Refoundation (MRN).
According to figures validated by the high court, Mamadi Doumbouya won the election with 86.72% of the votes cast, far ahead of his competitors, including Abdoulaye Yéro Baldé of FRONDEG, credited with 6.58%.
This proclamation brings to an end the electoral process marked by limited challenges and a few appeals rejected by the Supreme Court, which ruled that no major irregularity was such as to call into question the integrity of the vote.
A 7-year term
In accordance with the new Constitution resulting from the 2025 referendum, the presidential term in Guinea is now seven years, renewable only once. General-President Mamadi Doumbouya thus officially begins his first civilian term, marking a historic step in the transition initiated after the coup d'état of September 5, 2021.
A key step in the political transition
For many observers, this proclamation of the final results marks the end of the process of returning to constitutional order and the transformation of the head of the junta into an elected president.
The Supreme Court, through its president, praised "the sense of responsibility of the people of Guinea" and called "for national unity to consolidate democracy and stability".
National and international reactions
At the regional level, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) welcomed a generally peaceful election, while calling on the new authorities to pursue democratic reforms and strengthen the rule of law.
In the country, supporters of Mamadi Doumbouya celebrated this victory in several districts of Conakry, while some opposition parties denounced "a rigged election".
A new era begins
The inauguration of the president-elect is expected in the coming days at the Mohammed V Palace in Conakry. General Doumbouya has promised to make this term one of renewal, social justice, and national development. "This is a victory for the Guinean people and for national sovereignty. Together, we will build a strong and united Guinea," he declared in his first address after the official proclamation.
