Guinée : Sékouba Konaté relance le dossier Air Guinée et accuse Cellou Dalein de s'être soustrait à la prison
A heated controversy has just been rekindled by General Sékouba Konaté, former president of the Guinean transition in 2010. In a media appearance on Vox Africa, the former head of state made serious accusations against Cellou Dalein Diallo, leader of the UFDG, concerning the management of the defunct Air Guinée company.
According to Konaté, former Prime Minister Cellou Dalein Diallo admitted his responsibility for the controversial management of the national airline, escaping imprisonment thanks to his intervention at the time.
General Konaté claimed to have been personally involved in the audit process and to have damning evidence: "Even the guy (referring to Cellou Dalein Diallo) who now says he won in 2010, I was the chairman of the audits. I know he should have gone to prison. Because he admitted it, he signed everything."
The former transitional leader later said he had spared the opposition leader at the time: "But that day, I said: no, we must not send him to prison. Leave him alone."
Konaté cited several witnesses to this scene, including "Matos," "Anne—now a big boss—" and the deceased "Onopogui," all members of the audit team at the time. He concluded with a veiled threat: "But let him keep talking, because there's something else I'll say against him..."
The Air Guinea case, linked to accusations of embezzlement during the company's privatization, has dogged Cellou Dalein Diallo for years. The UFDG president has always maintained his innocence, denouncing the political exploitation of the case by successive regimes.
Despite the recurring accusations, General Konaté's latest statement does not shed light on the truth: no concrete evidence from the audit report has been made public to date. This vagueness continues to fuel speculation about the exact responsibilities in the management of the defunct company.
This new accusation rekindles the debate against a backdrop of political score-settling, at a time when the political climate in Guinea remains particularly tense.
