Guinée: une responsable de l'opposition enlevée selon son parti
An official from one of Guinea's main opposition parties was "abducted from her home" in Conakry, her movement said Saturday in a country where abductions of opposition figures have increased since a junta seized power in 2021.
Néné Oussou Diallo, a member of the National Executive Bureau of the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG), was abducted "on Friday, January 9, at around 9 a.m.", according to a statement from her party.
This "abduction" was "perpetrated by uniformed agents wearing balaclavas, who arrived in unregistered pickup trucks," according to the UFDG. "Given the modus operandi, there is reason to believe that Ms. Diallo is the victim of an enforced disappearance," the opposition party stated.
Since 2021, the junta has restricted freedoms. Enforced disappearances and abductions have increased. But the authorities have always claimed to know nothing about the cases of enforced disappearances that have taken place in the country.
Junta leader Mamadi Doumbouya was elected to a seven-year term in the December 28th election, securing a landslide victory with 86.72% of the vote against relatively insignificant opponents. He won without even campaigning, in an election seemingly tailor-made for him.
For the UFDG, "these forced disappearances constitute a common practice used by the junta to permanently silence dissenting voices and maintain the climate of fear and terror, essential to the confiscation of political power."
The party "demands the immediate and unconditional release" of Ms. Oussou Diallo.
