« Je veux des licenciements » : Le Président Oligui Nguéma en colère après une descente inopinée au ministère de l’Emploi
Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma made a surprise visit to the Ministry of Employment and Public Service yesterday morning, Monday, December 15th. He observed that several civil servants were not at their posts. These cases of absenteeism provoked the anger of the Gabonese Head of State.
He immediately demanded the dismissal of these agents. In his view, there are many Gabonese graduates who could adequately replace them.
"You lay off workers, you hire young Gabonese people who understand digital technology and digitalization."
"We need to find those who are not coming to work, you report to the Secretary-General and I want dismissals. There are Gabonese who want to work. There are Gabonese graduates from universities who are ready to work and who have the same qualifications as you who are here. So give these Gabonese a chance," said Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma, before demanding the list of absentees.
He continued: "(These absent civil servants) may be tired due to old age. They cannot come to work at 7:30 AM. There is no problem, we will not disturb them, you dismiss them, you hire young Gabonese people who understand digital technology and digitalization, who can move things forward."
"We can't continue like this."
“If you are unable to impose sanctions, give me the list of absentees. Perhaps you are afraid. But I take responsibility for what I do. We cannot continue like this. If there are only 100 or 60 working, well, we will keep those 60 and those 100 and we don’t need the rest. We will send them home,” the Gabonese president declared.
The leader also criticized the delay in digitizing files at the ministry level.
“Make the files flow smoothly, look at the room next door, those are the exam results piled up. Why aren’t they digitized? Someone comes by, they’ll steal a Gabonese person’s file, someone who’s against it will take another person’s file. It’s full of boxes there. When are you going to digitize this? Then we complained, (saying) the exam was poorly organized,” argued the disgruntled tenant of the Palais Rénovation.
