A young man from Murang'a, Kenya, has given a striking account of his incredible survival after being mistakenly presumed dead and taken to the morgue while still breathing. It is a tragic yet inspiring story, marked by risky life choices, a violent attack, and an unexpected rebirth.

According to Macharia, everything changed during his high school years. A promising student, his academic path was disrupted by a school strike during his sophomore year. This episode marked the beginning of a slow decline. Little by little, he lost all discipline, regularly missed classes, and eventually abandoned his academic ambitions, even skipping his KCSE exams.

"I ignored my parents' advice and started hanging out with the wrong crowd," he now says regretfully.

After finishing high school, the young man joined a group of friends involved in criminal activities. He quickly became involved in a motorcycle robbery, an operation he himself described as "poorly planned and poorly executed." Tasked with driving the stolen vehicle, he encountered technical difficulties that slowed their escape.

Despite this, the group manages to escape their pursuers and sells the motorcycle to a parts dealer. Macharia receives 15,000 Kenyan shillings and some new clothes. Unaware that he is now wanted, he returns home, intending to enjoy his loot in peace.

But the situation quickly deteriorates.

While he was resting at home, an angry mob stormed in and demanded the return of his stolen motorcycle. A violent attack ensued.

"They beat me until I asked them to finish me off," he recounts. Seriously injured and left for dead, he was then taken to the morgue.

His parents, powerless in the face of the situation, were then informed of his death and asked to prepare his funeral. "They had already lost hope. They were crying... then they were told that I was alive," he recalls.

Against all odds, Macharia regains consciousness, narrowly escaping a tragic end.

This episode marked a turning point in his life. Today, he uses his story as a powerful awareness message.
