Côte d’Ivoire : Ouattara félicite Sassou Nguesso réélu pour un 5e mandat consécutif au Congo
It's an open secret. Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso was re-elected for a fifth consecutive term in the presidential election of March 15th. The veteran leader obtained over 94.90% of the votes cast—a Soviet-style victory. Following his resounding re-election, his Ivorian counterpart, Alassane Ouattara, sent him an official message of congratulations.
According to Fraternité Matin, which reported the information, it was in an official telegram transmitted from Abidjan that Mr. Ouattara expressed, on behalf of the Ivorian people, the government and in his own name, his "very warm and heartfelt congratulations" to the octogenarian.
He extended his wishes for happiness, health and every success in his new term and expressed his confidence in the leader's ability to continue his mission at the head of the Republic of Congo.
In conclusion, the Ivorian President reaffirmed his willingness to work with his counterpart to strengthen the ties of cooperation and fraternity between Congo and Ivory Coast.
It's worth remembering that the Congolese president led his country from 1979 to 1992 and then again from 1997 to the present day. This is his fifth consecutive term as head of state. He has already spent more than 42 years in power. His Ivorian counterpart is currently serving his fourth term.
