Le président du Ghana limoge la présidente de la Cour suprême pour faute

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkonoo from her post after a commission of inquiry found her guilty of abuse of office, the presidency announced Monday.

The decision follows a report by a five-member commission set up to investigate complaints filed by citizens alleging falsification of court records and misappropriation of public funds.

Ms Torkornoo was suspended from her duties in April pending the commission's findings.

"After reviewing the complaint and the evidence, the commission concluded that the facts of misconduct (...) were established and recommended his dismissal," presidential spokesman Felix Kwakye Ofosu said in a statement.

"President John Dramani Mahama (...) has dismissed the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from her duties with immediate effect," he continued.

Mr. Mahama, who took office in January, has pledged a sweeping crackdown on corruption in the country.

Ms. Torkornoo, 61, was appointed Chief Justice of Ghana in June 2023, becoming the third woman to hold the position.

This is the first time that a sitting Supreme Court chief justice has been formally investigated as part of a constitutional process and dismissed.

It is not yet clear whether legal action will be taken against her.

Vive ce Président de la République ! Il n'y qu'ici des lobbies et presse estiment qu'il ya des intouchables en matière de justice. Autrement dit, la justice ne devait que d'appliquer aux pauvres ou voleurs de poulets et chèvres.
