Le soft power africain s’écrit en lettres d’encre

The 18th Dakar International Book and Teaching Materials Fair, which will be held from November 25 to 30, 2025, will highlight Egypt and pay particular attention to the New African and Sovereign States (NEAS). The choice of the theme "Library, Transmission and Sovereignty" underlines the desire to go beyond a simple book exhibition to make the fair a space for strategic reflection on the cultural and political role of publishing in Africa.

The event brings together publishers, authors, librarians, and institutional stakeholders, creating a forum for exchange where the dissemination of knowledge is combined with the promotion of African identity. NEAS, often faced with production and distribution challenges, will be able to share experiences and innovations, thus strengthening continental publishing cooperation.

Beyond the cultural aspect, the fair plays a subtle diplomatic role. By highlighting collaborations between African countries and with Egypt, it illustrates how books can become a lever of soft power, contributing to the projection of an image of cultural power and the consolidation of pan-African networks.

The event also aims to raise public awareness about the importance of reading and education in building sovereign and resilient societies. It establishes itself as a platform where the transmission of knowledge becomes a political and strategic act, strengthening Africa's place on the global intellectual and cultural scene.
